Nursing center research partners talk about their experience with tuned lighting

Eunice Noell-Waggoner, President of the Center of Design for an Aging Society, recently interviewed two leaders from the ACC Care Center in Sacramento, CA, about their experience implementing tuned lighting.

The interview with Dr. Scott Stringer, Medical Director, and Tamara Kario, Administrator, followed a research partnership between the ACC Care Center and a Q&I-led research team, during which ACC Care Center leaders implemented tuned lighting -- lighting that changes in color and intensity to mimic natural day and night -- and researchers measured lighting and assessed the feasibility of measuring the impact on sleep and dementia-related behaviors.

Ms. Noell-Waggoner is an interior architect whose passion is lighting and aging vision, and a member of the multi-disciplinary research team. Her interview with Dr. Stringer and Ms. Kario was included in a presentation, "Light and Spectral Exposure: A Day in the Life of a Care Center Resident," at the Environments for Aging Conference (June 1-2, 2020). It will also be included in a recorded presentation for LightFair International (July 23, 2020).
